Sunday School

Children have a special part to play in the church family at St John the Evangelist. We want children here to know that they are part of God’s family. Each child is valuable and we love welcoming new families into St John’s. Our regular church services are a great place for adults and children to come and be all together, as we learn from each other. Sunday School and Church is an exciting place where we learn together what it means to follow Jesus. In all the children’s work we do, we want to be ‘Growing Together – playing our part in God’s plan’.

There are four Sunday School classes as below:

The lessons are age-appropriate and where possible, based on same themes that are explored that week with the adult congregation. Christian understanding of the bible is created through readings, stories, play, games, crafts, prayer, songs and exercises. Sessions are led by current and past Sunday School parents who bring their own faith, experiences, interests and skills to bear. We try to combine sponsoring the growth of faith with a bit of fun, so the kids feel positive about coming to church with you.

Our expectation is that parents will stay with the 0-3 year olds (there are toys available) and help settle in new, younger children by accompanying them to Sunday School. Older children and those already familiar with play group and school structures should be left, allowing you to participate with the adult congregation.

We have no expectations of the existing level of Christian knowledge of parents or children coming along. We all start somewhere and this is a good place for your children to begin!
