In 1945 some ladies of St John’s church wanted to find a way that both men and women could meet together and chat over a cup of tea. The vicar of the day thought it a great idea and after some time came up with an offer too good to refuse.
A small team was appointed, the church hall was made available and word of mouth brought together friends and neighbours of the community. A meeting place had been found and the Friday Club born. Irene Clarke and Grace Hatcher, President and Secretary, lead and sculpted the club over the decades until retirement early in the 21st century.
We continue to meet and endeavour to plan a varied Programme, with guest speakers, outings, in-house activities and plenty of tea and cake. A copy of our programme can be found here or on the church notice board.
We hope you may find time to come and join us and share an afternoon in the Parish Centre. You and any visitors you might have will be warmly welcomed.
The Club meets at 2.00pm on Fridays, unless otherwise noted, in St John’s Parish Centre adjacent to the church
